Training Completed Dr. Ng Hian Chan, Consultant Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon at Penang Adventist Hospital, has successfully completed the Fundamental Endoscopic Facial Rejuvenation training course, certified by MicroAire Surgical Instruments and ENDOTINE®, held at the prestigious Chulalongkorn Surgical Training Center in Bangkok, Thailand on 22 June 2026. About the Training The intensive programme combined formal didactic teaching with hands-on cadaveric laboratory training — equipping participating surgeons with the technical skills and anatomical understanding required to perform endoscopic forehead and brow lift surgery at specialist level. The curriculum covered three core areas: Endoscopic Upper Face & Forehead Lift — surgical anatomy, identification of key nerve landmarks, periosteal dissection planes, and endoscopic visualisation technique Endoscopic Midface & Periorbital Complex — retaining ligament release, optimal vector of lift, and volume repositioning of the midface Lower Face & Neck Rejuvenation — SMAS architecture, jawline definition strategies, and minimally invasive approaches to neck lift The course was conducted by expert faculty from Thailand's leading plastic surgery centres, including specialists in upper facial rejuvenation, midface surgery, and lower face and neck procedures. New Service Now Available at Penang Adventist Hospital Following the completion of this training, Dr. Ng is pleased to announce the launch of Endoscopic Forehead & Brow Lift using ENDOTINE® bioabsorbable fixation at Penang Adventist Hospital. Key advantages include: Minimal incisions — 3 to 5 small cuts under 1cm each, hidden within the hairline with no visible forehead scar Faster recovery — most patients presentable within 7 to 10 days ENDOTINE® bioabsorbable fixation — holds elevated tissue securely while healing, then dissolves naturally over 6 to 12 months, leaving no permanent implant Addresses brow ptosis, forehead lines, frown lines, and the tired appearance caused by brow descent Performed under moderate sedation — no general anaesthesia required Can be combined with upper blepharoplasty or deep plane facelift for comprehensive facial rejuvenation In Dr. Ng's Own Words "This training has significantly enhanced my ability to offer patients a minimally invasive option for forehead and brow rejuvenation. The endoscopic approach, combined with ENDOTINE® fixation, delivers natural, lasting results with far less downtime than traditional open techniques. I look forward to bringing this to my patients at Penang Adventist Hospital." — Dr. Ng Hian Chan, Consultant Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon About Dr. Ng Hian Chan Dr. Ng Hian Chan is a Consultant Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon with over 22 years of specialist experience. Dr. Ng Hian Chan Presents at MAPACS 29th Annual Scientific Congress 2026 — Abdominoplasty under Local Anaesthesia: Refinement over the Years
Overview Dr. Ng Hian Chan, Consultant Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon at Penang Adventist Hospital, was an invited faculty speaker at the MAPACS 29th Annual Scientific Congress (ASC) 2026, held from 4 to 6 June 2026 at St. Giles Wembley Hotel, George Town, Penang. The congress, organised by the Malaysian Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons (MAPACS), carried the theme 'Science & Innovation Meet Art' and brought together specialist plastic surgeons from Malaysia and internationally — including invited speakers from the United States, Italy, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, and Cambodia. Dr. Ng's Presentation Dr. Ng was invited to present during Symposium 2 – Body, one of the key scientific sessions of the congress held on the morning of Thursday, 4 June 2026. His presentation was scheduled for 11:40 to 12:10 — a 30-minute invited faculty slot, reflecting the standing of his clinical contribution. Presentation title: "Abdominoplasty under Sedation and Tumescent Local Anaesthesia: Refinement over the Years" The presentation drew on Dr. Ng's extensive experience performing abdominoplasty — commonly known as a tummy tuck — using a technique he has refined over more than two decades of practice: performing the procedure under moderate sedation and tumescent local anaesthesia, rather than conventional general anaesthesia. Why This Approach Matters The vast majority of abdominoplasty procedures worldwide are performed under general anaesthesia, which carries higher anaesthetic risks, longer recovery times, and increased post-operative nausea and complications — particularly in patients with cardiovascular risk factors, older age, or higher BMI. Dr. Ng's approach — performing the same procedure under tumescent local anaesthesia with moderate sedation — has allowed him to deliver equivalent surgical outcomes with a significantly improved safety profile and shorter recovery. Key advantages of this approach include: Avoidance of general anaesthesia — significantly safer for patients with cardiovascular, respiratory, or metabolic risk factors Tumescent technique minimises blood loss — the infiltration of tumescent fluid causes vasoconstriction, reducing intraoperative bleeding and bruising Faster recovery — patients typically return home the same day or the following morning, and return to light activities within two weeks Reduced post-operative nausea — a common complaint after general anaesthesia that is largely eliminated with the sedation approach Lower overall complication rate — supported by Dr. Ng's clinical outcomes data over more than 15 years performing this technique The presentation shared Dr. Ng's technical refinements accumulated over years of practice — including patient selection criteria, tumescent fluid formulation and infiltration technique, surgical dissection approach with minimal undermining, diastasis recti repair with permanent sutures, umbilicoplasty technique, and post-operative compression protocols. Context in the Programme Dr. Ng's presentation followed immediately after invited international speaker Dr. Ken Arashiro (Japan), who presented on how to safely perform Mommy Makeover procedures as outpatient procedures (11:20–11:40). Together, the two presentations formed a thematically cohesive block on advancing the safety and accessibility of major body contouring surgery — a topic of growing importance as patient demand for outpatient aesthetic surgery continues to rise globally. The body symposium was part of a three-day congress that also featured major international faculty presentations on breast surgery, facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, reconstructive surgery, and free scientific paper presentations from Malaysian trainees and consultants. About the MAPACS 29th Annual Scientific Congress MAPACS — the Malaysian Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons — is the national professional body for plastic surgeons in Malaysia. Its annual scientific congress is the premier academic event in the specialty in Malaysia, drawing specialists from across the country and international faculty from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The 29th congress was held in Penang — a UNESCO World Heritage city — and is the first to be hosted in Penang in several years, making it particularly significant for Penang-based surgeons including Dr. Ng. Continuing Medical Education and Clinical Excellence Being selected as invited faculty at the MAPACS ASC reflects the recognition of Dr. Ng's clinical expertise and his contribution to advancing safe surgical practice in Malaysia. The invitation to present is extended to surgeons whose techniques, outcomes data, or clinical innovations are considered valuable enough to share with the national specialist community. This MAPACS appearance came less than three weeks before Dr. Ng completed the Fundamental Endoscopic Facial Rejuvenation certification course at the Chulalongkorn Surgical Training Center in Bangkok (22 June 2026) — a period of intensive professional development that has both broadened and deepened his surgical repertoire heading into the second half of 2026.
