VASER liposuction & Body Contouring
Dr. Ng’s clinic offers three methods of liposuction — traditional tumescent liposuction, VASER ultrasound-assisted liposuction, and Waterjet liposuction (Body-Jet®). In most cases, VASER liposuction is the preferred technique for body contouring, delivering superior precision and faster recovery. Waterjet liposuction is preferred when harvested fat will be transferred to the breast, face, or buttocks, as it preserves fat cell viability.
Successful body contouring is not simply about removing as much fat as possible — it is about sculpting the correct amount of fat in each location to achieve a beautiful, natural body shape. Occasionally, fat grafting is combined with liposuction to add volume where needed, such as the buttocks or breast.
Traditional Liposuction | VASER Liposuction (Preferred) |
Cannula physically breaks up fat | Ultrasound energy liquefies fat before removal |
Higher trauma to surrounding tissue | Preserves nerves, blood vessels, connective tissue |
More bruising, longer downtime | Faster recovery, less post-op swelling and bruising |
Less precise for sculpting detail | Superior precision for detailed body contouring |
Less effective in fibrous areas | Works well in fibrous tissue — male chest, back, flanks |
Treatment Areas
Abdomen and flanks (love handles / waist)
Inner and outer thighs
Arms (upper arm contouring)
Back and bra roll area
Chin and submental area (double chin)
Male chest — fatty component of gynecomastia
Buttocks contouring
Abdominal 6-pack definition (high-definition liposuction)
Procedure Details
Moderate sedation and tumescent local anaesthesia — no general anaesthesia required
Tumescent fluid infused first to minimise bleeding and improve fat removal
VASER ultrasound probe emulsifies fat selectively without damaging surrounding structures
Gentle aspiration removes liquefied fat through tiny 2–3mm incisions — minimal scarring
Multiple areas can be treated in one session
Day-case procedure — home same day in most cases
Compression garment worn for 4–6 weeks post-procedure
Return to light work within 5–7 days; full exercise at 4–6 weeks
Important — What Liposuction Is NOT Liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss treatment. It removes localised fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. Ideal candidates are close to their target weight with good skin elasticity. Maintaining a stable, healthy weight after the procedure preserves long-term results. |
Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Abdominoplasty — commonly known as a tummy tuck — is one of the most transformative body contouring procedures available. It addresses three key concerns that cannot be resolved through exercise or diet alone: excess abdominal skin, weakened or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), and stubborn localised fat in the lower abdomen.
Dr. Ng performs Lipo-abdominoplasty — a refined combined technique that integrates VASER liposuction with the abdominoplasty procedure in a single session. This is performed under moderate sedation and tumescent local anaesthesia, offering patients a safer, faster-recovery alternative to traditional abdominoplasty under general anaesthesia.
Who is a Candidate?
Women following pregnancy with excess, overhanging abdominal skin and muscle laxity
Patients following significant weight loss with loose, redundant abdominal skin
Individuals with diastasis recti — separation of the rectus abdominis muscles after pregnancy or weight gain
Patients with previous lower abdominal scars (e.g. caesarean section) wishing to have them incorporated into the abdominoplasty scar
Anyone with stubborn lower abdominal fat resistant to exercise and diet
Patients who have already reached their target weight and want to refine and firm their abdominal contour
Dr. Ng’s Technique — Lipo-Abdominoplasty Under Tumescent Local Anaesthesia
Combined VASER liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, and waist skin excision and muscle tightening in one session
Performed under moderate sedation and tumescent local anaesthesia — significantly safer than general anaesthesia, especially for older patients
Tumescent fluid technique minimises blood loss and enhances precision
Precise blade dissection with minimal undermining to reduce risk and speed recovery
Diastasis recti repair — tightening of the separated rectus abdominis muscles using permanent sutures for a flat, firm abdominal wall
One-day admission only in most cases — return home the following day
Umbilicoplasty — Belly Button Reconstruction
One of the most technically demanding aspects of abdominoplasty is the creation of a natural-looking belly button (umbilicus). Dr. Ng places particular emphasis on meticulous umbilicoplasty technique:
New umbilicus created at a natural, anatomically correct position
Oval or slightly vertical shape — chosen to match each patient’s natural anatomy
Inverted (hooded) appearance where appropriate — not a flat or protruding result
Scar at the umbilicus concealed within the natural skin folds
A naturally appearing belly button is a key marker of quality abdominoplasty — Dr. Ng takes pride in this result
Scar Placement
Low transverse scar positioned below the bikini or underwear line — easily concealed
Where a previous caesarean section scar exists, it is incorporated and improved
Scar quality improves significantly over 12–18 months — most patients are very satisfied with the final appearance
Recovery Overview
Compression garment worn for 6–8 weeks post-procedure
Swelling peaks at 1–2 weeks and gradually resolves over 3–6 months
Return to light desk work at 2 weeks; driving at 2–3 weeks
No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 6–8 weeks
Final result visible at 6 months when swelling has fully resolved
Pain is very manageable — most patients are surprised by how comfortable recovery is
Mommy Makeover — Combined Procedures
Abdominoplasty is frequently combined with breast surgery (lift, augmentation, or reduction) and liposuction of additional areas as part of a personalised Mommy Makeover — a set of procedures designed to restore the body after pregnancy and childbirth.
Breast augmentation or lift abdominoplasty — the most common combination
VASER liposuction of flanks, thighs, or arms combined with abdominoplasty in one session
Combination procedures may reduce overall recovery time compared to separate staged operations
